Pennsylvania Hunter-Trapper Education Course Practice Exam

If you become lost while hunting, the best course of action is to wait in a safe place for someone to find you (Option B). This is the correct answer because staying put increases the chances of search and rescue teams locating you more quickly and efficiently. Moving around can make it harder for rescuers to track you. It is important to conserve your energy and stay in a secure location where you are easily visible or can make noise to attract attention.

The other options are not the best choices in this scenario:

- Option A: Keeping moving and trying to find your way out can lead you further away from safety and can make it more difficult for rescuers to locate you.

- Option C: Starting a fire for rescue signals can be a good idea if you are well-prepared and have the necessary equipment, but in some situations, it can also attract unwanted attention or worsen the situation.

- Option D: Climbing a tree to get a better view can be risky, especially if you are disoriented or in a state of panic. It is safer to stay on the ground where you are more easily located by search and rescue teams.
